It’s Just How Gossip Is Done

How is it that technology has even managed to change the way we gossip?  It wasn’t too long ago that people interested in celebrity gossip engaged in their long distance stalking through the pages of glossy magazines bought at the local grocery store.  For a couple of bucks, readers had access to hundreds of pictures of stars as well as juicy tidbits about their lives, romances and disasters.  It was just the way gossip was done.  Then came the Internet.

Like almost every aspect of living, the internet vastly changed the way people read and view celebrity news.  It started with simple pages offering much the same content as the old-fashioned magazines and then came the revolution.  The stars themselves began hosting pages dedicated to their lives.  They started to use Twitter to send their fan base messages about everything from their latest projects to their last meal.  This instant access fueled the hunger of celebrity news hounds and created an even greater need for access to information, pictures and videos of the hottest celebrities.

Of course, in some cases, this access went too far.  Some stars soon realized that the pictures and news bits posted online were far more intrusive than ever before.  It has become commonplace and even expected for fans to have access to photos covering every aspect of a celebrity’s life, even those that are less than glamorous.

Living in the eye of the public automatically means a loss of privacy and thanks to the Internet; it also means fuel for celebrity news hounds everywhere!  As more and more people turn to the Internet for their celebrity news needs consumers are likely to see several key changes.  While they will have access to greater amounts of pictures and gossip, it is likely that celebrities will work to provide some sort of oversight into online gossip and, in the process, protect their images.
